Fast Cars

What's a fast car? What they are, and where you can find them at Fast-Autos

Typical Fast Cars are: Aston Martin Vanquish, Bentley Continental GT, BMW 650i, Chevrolet Corvette, Ferrari F430, Honda NSX, Jaguar XKR, Koenigsegg CCR, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes-Benz SL600, Noble M400, Porsche 911, Subaru Impreza WRX STi, and Westfield Sport 2000 S. These have different levels of performance, and prices ranging from about $40,000 up to $400,000, but they are all fast cars - relative to ordinary cars.

A fast car is a fast car because it can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 6 seconds, and has a top speed of 140 mph? Not necessarily. See, you need to be able to drive a truly fast car quickly on the straight, round corners, and then stop quickly.

Some cars are tuned up to make them go fast in a straight line. Maybe they have 300 bhp on tap, but they've still got the lousy handling, steering and braking of the original car which had 150 bhp. It wouldn't qualify as a fast car for Fast-Autos.com

On the other hand, a small sports car like the Mazda Miata (MX-5) gets in because it handles really well, and corners fast as well. It is only just in on its acceleration, but because it is such fun to drive it qualifies.

Not all fast cars are fun to drive! Some of the really powerful supercars may be scary rather than fun! Exhilarating, but because you have to concentrate hard all the time, not necessarily fun. Fun is important though.

We divide fast cars into different categories:

1. Exotic supercars

These are the most expensive, exclusive and powerful cars you can buy. This includes cars like the Porsche Carrera GT, Ferrari Enzo and Pagani Zonda C12-S. 7.3

2. Supercars

These are the truly fast cars with super handling, brakes, looks, but they're a bit more affordable than exotic supercars. They're almost always two-seaters or 2+2s. Typical are the Aston Martin DB9,
Ferrari F430, Jaguar XKR, Lamborghini Gallardo, Maserati GranSport, and Porsche 911 Carrera.

3. Sports cars

Sports cars are where it all started. They are low, compact two-seaters, with good performance. They don't cost as much as supercars, and their performance is usually not so good. They're a lot of fun to drive. Typical are the Caterham Seven, Honda S2000, all TVRs, Nissan 350Z and the Lotus Elise. Sad, but it's hard to find an Italian sports car these days.

4. Pocket Rockets

Pocket Rockets are usually based on ordinary cars. Quite a lot are front-drive, which is not suitable for sports cars, and their handling is not usually as good as a sports car. They are usually hatchbacks or sedans. Typical are the Dodge Neon SRT-4, VW Golf GTI, Audi S4, Mitsubishi Evo VIII and Subaru Impreza WRX Sti.
