What'll she do?
The Porsche GT3 is as fast as the 911 Turbo at 190 mph, and takes 4.5 seconds to get to 60 mph. This was very quick at the time, but is now eclipsed by the latest GT3.
Low-drag GT3 gets big spoiler, but no extra air intakes
This then, is the 911 for the real enthusiast. It looks almost like a standard 911, apart from minor differences. The GT3 also gets a big spoiler at the back, but doesn't have the extra air intakes of the 911 Turbos. It has a small but distinctive air dam built into the front apron, and also very narrow reverse wings in the sills.
Oh, and if you want to look the part, you can get the GT3 RS which comes with side decals to warn all that you mean business.... It handles better, too.
Without the need for those big air intakes of the 911 Turb,o the GT3 has low drag - it's Cd is just 0.30, which is getting nearly as good as you can get.
381 bhp without a turbo
If you opt for the power delivery of a non-turbo engine, then the GT3 is the one you'll be wanting. It squeezes 381 bhp at 7,400 rpm from Porsche's amazing 3.6 liter flat-six. Tuned to 106 bhp per liter, this is a much more peaky engine, maximum torque of 284 lb ft (385 Nm) being developed at 5,000 rpm.
Both the GT3 and GT3 RS are expected to spend some time on the track, so they have dry sump lubrication and six-speed manual boxes.
As standard, you get six-pot front callipers and four-pot rear callipers and large discs; you can have ceramic discs if you like. The tires are 235/40 ZR 18s at the front and 295/30 ZR 18s at the rear.
Lightweight seats
You also get lightweight bucket seats in the GT3, and to reduce weight you don't get any back seats. If you opt for the more sporty GT3 RS, you'll find the suspension is a little different, and better, and you get a roll cage built in. The GT3 weighs 3,040 lb (1,380 kg).
If you like you the resounding, classic style of power build up to a crescendo around 8,000 rpm, with rear engine and rear drive, then you'll love the GT3.
By the way, you don't get stability control; it's down to you, so you need to watch that right foot. When the GT3 is replaced, you're pretty certain to get stability control.
