Super Fast Cars

The fastest cars that handle well, not the most expensive, qualify for this title

Super Fast Cars are among the fastest cars you can buy. They are not necessarily the most expensive cars you can buy. The Ultima GTR is a good example. It is the fastest accelerating and decelerating car in the world, yet it costs about $72,000, against the $400,000 to $1 milllion of some exotic cars.

Other super fast cars include the Porsche 911 Turbo and 911 GT2 with 480 and 530 bhp. The Bentley Continental GT is another super fast car – too many are made for it to be an exotic car, although it is very fast,, and handles pretty well, too.

Some are small but very fast

There are also some very small and Super Fast Cars. Like the Radical, which lapped the Nurburgring circuit in less than 7 minutes.

Is a top speed of 200 mph needed to qualify? If a car has good road holding so that it can be driven very fast round a track or on derestricted roads. For example, the Noble M12, which has only 360 bhp and a top speed of 175 mph is a Super Fast Car because it can be driven very fast round a track, and accelerates very fast to 100 mph.

A short list of super fast cars

Acura/Honda NSX

Aston Martin DB9

Aston Martin V8 Vantage

Audi R8 – a very fast newcomer

Corvette C6

Dodge Viper SRT-10

Elfin MS8 – from Australia

Ferrari F430

Lamborghini Gallardo

Nobel M400

Porsche 911 Turbo

Porsche 911 GT2

TVR Tuscan

Ultima GTR

These are just a few super fast cars – super fast in acceleration, top speed and cornering power. The smallest in engine size are the Noble M400 with a 3.0 liter V-6, and the NSX with a 3.2 liter V-6, then the Porsches, with their flat-six engines. The Elfin MS8 is one of the most unusual – it is a small open-wheel sports car with a massive GM/Holden V8.

Most of these cars have V-8 engines, except the TVR which has an in-line six, and the Gallardo and Viper which have V-10s.

All except the Bentley are two-seaters or 2+2s, but the Bentley is a full four-seater, with plenty of luggage space as well – it is unique in this respect. Some others, such as the Noble M400 have hardly any luggage space at all. They are all about going super fast wherever you are.

Porsche 911 Turbos are super fast cars

There are some other super fast cars that are not in production – they are modified versions of production cars, such as Porsche 911s. These cars are built by tuners, even though few have the handling to compete with those in our list.

One interesting company that produces very hot cars based on Porsche 911s is Techart, whose 996 GT Street pushes out 620hp @ 5,800 rpm enough to take the car to 208 mph, which is slightly more than the Porsche Carrera GT can do!

Another Porsche 911 based car is the Ruf R Turbo which is very fast. The engine develops over about 500hp, and the car has a top speed of over 210 mph. It reaches 60 mph in about 3.8 seconds, which is in the top supercar class.

Among the really unusual super fast cars you can buy are cars modified by Brabus. Among its latest models are a modified version of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren – who would think it needs more power? - and a hotted up Mercedes-Benz SLK. The Brabus Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is actually intended for racing, not the road, and produces 660 bhp at 6,500 rpm. On the other hand, the SLK is intended as a road burner. It has an enlarged version of the V-8 engine, which has a capacity of 6.1 liters, and the power is increased from 360 bhp to 445 bhp.

To transmit the power, there is a seven-speed gearbox and a self-locking differential. Both these are super fast cars. Suspension and tires are also different, and able to take the power.

AMG, which works on Mercedes-Benz cars, produces the engine for the Pagani and also for the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, which are among the fastest cars. AMG is now building its own 6.3 liter V-8 engine.

As you can see, there are many ways to make a car go very fast. Both supercars and tuned cars can all qualify as Super Fast Cars.
